Show Your True Colors During This Aquarius Full Moon
Full Moon in Aquarius | July 29, 2026 | 9:36 AM CST | Full Moon at 6°30’ Aquarius
Late July has this thing where you almost miss the shift if you’re not paying attention. The days are still long and hot, but something in the very early morning air has changed. I think its a hint of something cooling at the edges. Summer isn’t going anywhere yet, but it’s started getting ready to pack its bags. That’s the backdrop for this Full Moon, and it suits Aquarius perfectly….a sign that’s always living a little ahead of the present moment, already thinking about what comes next.
The Full Moon in Aquarius peaks on July 29th at 9:36 AM CST, exact at 6 degrees and 30 minutes of the Water Bearer. And I’ll just say it plainly…this is not a simple, garden variety full moon. The sky is stacked in a way that doesn’t happen often, and if you’ve been feeling the intensity of the past few days in your body or your emotional life, that’s not a coincidence.
While the Moon sits in Aquarius, it’s conjunct Pluto, which means Pluto is right there beside it, close enough to be part of the same conversation. Pluto doesn’t do surface level. It brings up what’s been buried and illuminates the things you’ve been avoiding. Across the sky, the Sun is in Leo and it’s sitting almost exactly on top of Jupiter, in a condition called cazimi, the heart of the Sun. Jupiter in that position is considered exceptionally strong. So we have the Moon and Pluto in Aquarius facing off against the Sun and Jupiter in Leo. That’s a lot of planetary weight on this particular full moon axis.
What it means practically is that the usual full moon invitation to release and reflect has more depth to it this time. Whatever surfaces over the next few days, emotionally, relationally, internally, is probably worth actually looking at instead of tabling for later. And the Leo-Aquarius tension is the through line…where are you being too much yourself at the expense of others, or too much other at the expense of yourself? Where have you been editing your true colors to fit the room?
This is also the Buck Moon, July’s traditional full moon name. More on that below. It’s a good one for this particular lunation.

Spiritual Meaning of the Aquarius Full Moon
Aquarius is a fixed air sign, which is a combination that doesn’t get talked about enough. Air is the element of ideas, communication, intellect, and the space between things. Fixed means it holds. It commits. It doesn’t drift. Aquarius is the sign that takes a vision, locks onto it, and refuses to let the practical reality of the world talk it out of it. That stubbornness is both its greatest strength and its most reliable blind spot.
A Full Moon in Aquarius illuminates the space between who you’ve been performing and who you actually are. This is also the sign most associated with individuality, authenticity, and the courage to be actually different from the crowd, not as an aesthetic, but as a lived reality. The full moon in this sign turns the light on wherever you’ve been suppressing that.
The Leo-Aquarius axis is the self versus the collective. Leo is the individual light, the creative spark, the one who needs to be seen and expressed. Aquarius is the community, the shared future, the system, the group. At a full moon, these two are in direct conversation, and the question is how to hold both without sacrificing one for the other. Your light doesn’t disappear when it serves something larger than itself. That’s actually when it matters most.
With Pluto conjunct this Full Moon, there’s a depth charge underneath all of that. The release this moon asks for isn’t symbolic tidying. Something more fundamental is ready to shift. An old pattern. A way of being that’s been quietly running the show. A story about yourself you’ve been carrying since before you can remember.
On the other side of that axis, the Sun in Leo sitting on Jupiter amplifies the creative, expressive, generous qualities of Leo to an unusual degree. Release under this moon and there is genuine expansion waiting on the other side. That’s the architecture of this moment.
This Full Moon also carries a thread back to the Aquarius New Moon from February 17th of this year. Whatever you planted in intention then, whatever conversation or commitment began in that window, may be surfacing now for completion, adjustment, or acknowledgment. Worth sitting with that.
Moon Lore and Seasonal Context
July’s full moon is traditionally called the Buck Moon, a name recorded in North American almanac tradition that references the male deer whose antlers are in active, rapid growth this time of year. Bucks shed their antlers every winter and regrow them each summer, producing a larger and more impressive rack with each passing year. The antlers emerge covered in soft velvet, growing fast and visibly, bone pushing out at a pace that borders on the remarkable.
There’s something fitting about that image for an Aquarius Full Moon with Pluto in the mix. Growth that happens in stages. Each cycle produces something bigger than the last. The velvet stage, where everything is tender and close to the surface, before the hardening comes. This moon might feel like that: sensitive, fast moving, something new and significant pushing through.
Other traditional names for July’s full moon include the Thunder Moon, a reference to the frequency of summer thunderstorms this time of year; the Hay Moon, tied to the hay harvests of early agricultural practice; and the Raspberry Moon, named for the ripening of wild raspberries. The Raspberry Moon name is a sweet one for an Aquarius lunation. Aquarius tends toward the unexpected, the unusual, the fruit you didn’t see growing until it was suddenly ripe.
Seasonally, we’re at the height of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. The growing season is deep in its middle stretch. The light is long. The heat is real. And underneath all of that warmth and abundance, if you pay attention, there’s that first whisper of the turning that’s coming. Aquarius always has one eye on what’s ahead. So does late July, if you know how to listen.
Astronomically, this full moon is notable for the Moon’s conjunction with Pluto, which has not occurred at a full moon in Aquarius in over 250 years, given Pluto’s long orbit. The last time Pluto was in Aquarius at all was during the French Revolution. That’s the scale we’re dealing with. It doesn’t mean your life is about to be upended, but it does mean the energies at play right now are larger than any individual full moon.
How to Work With This Moon in Daily Life
Aquarius full moon energy is electric and a little unpredictable. It doesn’t reward routine thinking. Here’s where to actually put your attention:
Let yourself be seen as you actually are. Aquarius rules authenticity in the deepest sense, not the curated kind. This is the moon to drop whatever performance you’ve been running and let the people in your life see who you actually are. That might feel uncomfortable. Pay attention to exactly where it shows up.
Take the unconventional approach seriously. If an idea has been showing up that seems too weird, too out-of-the-box, too unlikely to actually work, give it real consideration under this moon. Aquarius energy rewards the original thought. The unusual solution. The thing nobody else would have tried.
Look at what’s ripe for release. With Pluto involved, this full moon is asking for genuine release, not just the symbolic kind. What pattern has been running underneath your decisions for a long time? What way of operating that used to protect you is now just keeping you stuck? That’s what’s up for the examination.
Work with your dreams. Mugwort and Aquarius moons have a long association, and this is a good time to work with dream awareness. Before sleep, set an intention to receive clarity or insight through your dreams. Keep a journal close.
Connect with your community. Aquarius is deeply communal despite its reputation for being a lone wolf. This is a good moon to reach out to the people who matter to you. Not to network. Not to perform. Just to actually be in contact with the humans you care about.
Think about where you’re in the wrong container. Aquarius full moons often illuminate the mismatch between who you are and the structures you’ve been operating inside of. Are you in relationships, jobs, communities, or roles that don’t fit the real you? This moon will make that uncomfortable friction very visible.
Bringing This Moon’s Energy Into the Home
Aquarius rules the unconventional, the electric, and the visionary. Bring that into your space tonight:
Light blue, purple, or violet candles. Let them burn somewhere you’ll sit with them.
Open your windows if the night is cool enough. Aquarius is an air sign and stagnant air doesn’t suit it. Let the air move through.
Burn lavender incense or diffuse lavender and pine. Both carry Aquarian energy and lavender in particular supports the dream work and intuitive clarity this moon invites.
Make a cup of mugwort tea if you have it, or mint tea if you don’t. Sit with it. No scrolling. Just the tea and whatever thoughts come.
Bring out interesting stones. Labradorite is especially good for this moon. It’s the stone of the unexpected flash, the iridescent light that appears where you didn’t expect it, which is very Aquarius.
If you keep a vision board or any visual reminder of what you’re working toward, bring it out and actually look at it. Recommit or revise. This moon supports both.
Set a pine cone on your altar or windowsill as an offering to the season and the sign. Pine cones have long been associated with the third eye, vision, and the kind of knowing that doesn’t come from rational thought alone.
Clear your space before you do anything else. Aquarius doesn’t thrive in clutter. A few minutes of straightening makes a real difference to how the energy moves.
Tarot Practice for This Moon
The tarot card associated with Aquarius is The Star, the seventeenth card of the Major Arcana. It comes directly after The Tower, which is an important context. The Star is the exhale after the collapse. It’s the moment when the dust has settled and you look up and realize the sky is still full of light. Hope after disruption. Vision after upheaval.
Pull The Star from your deck and sit with it before you start the spread. Look at the figure in the card, pouring water between the pool and the land, one foot grounded, one in the water. Balance between the intuitive and the physical. Tending both. What does renewal look like for you right now? Where are you being invited to refill something that’s been running dry?
With Pluto in the picture for this full moon, The Star’s message lands a little differently than usual. This isn’t just hopeful optimism. It’s the kind of hope that comes from having actually moved through something difficult. Let it mean that.
Then try this spread:
Card 1: What is ready to be released under this Full Moon?
What pattern, belief, or version of yourself has run its course?
Card 2 (The Star, face up): Where is the light?
Set The Star between the release and the receive cards. It marks the pivot point.
Card 3: What am I being invited to receive or open to?
What wants to grow in the space that’s clearing?
Card 4 (optional): What unconventional or unexpected approach should I consider?
Pull a fourth card if you want additional Aquarian guidance on how to move forward in a way that’s actually true to you.
Don’t rush this spread. Let the cards sit together. Aquarius energy rewards unusual connections and lateral thinking. The meaning you find between the cards might matter as much as the individual interpretations.
Journal Prompts for the Aquarius Full Moon
💧 Where have I been editing who I am to fit a room, a relationship, or a role, and what has that cost me?
✨ What unconventional idea or approach have I been dismissing as too strange or unrealistic that might actually deserve real consideration?
🌙 Six months ago, during the Aquarius New Moon in February, what was I beginning or intending? What has come of that, and what is still unresolved?
🌌 What deeply rooted pattern, one that’s been running longer than just this year, feels ready to finally be released?
🦩 What does my true self, the version that’s not performing anything, want right now? What would it do if it weren’t worried about fitting in or being understood?
Ritual for the Aquarius Full Moon: The True Colors Reveal
This ritual works with the central tension of this lunation: the gap between the self you’ve been presenting and the one you’d rather lead with. It calls for honesty and originality in equal measure.
Do this in the evening of July 29th or the evening before if the timing works better for you. The full moon window holds for 24 hours on either side of the peak.
What you need:
A blue, purple, or violet candle
A piece of paper and a pen
A second piece of paper and a different color pen if you have one
A fireproof bowl
Mugwort or lavender incense, or lavender essential oil in a diffuser
Optional: a cup of mugwort or mint tea
Optional: labradorite or amethyst to hold
How to do it:
Settle and clear. Light your candle and incense. Make your tea if you’re using it. Take a few slow breaths and let your body actually arrive. Aquarius energy can feel buzzy and mental, so take a moment to come down into your body before you begin.
Write what you’re releasing. On the first piece of paper, write the version of yourself you’ve been performing. This might be a role, a pattern, a way of operating, a story, or something more specific. Be real about it. Nobody’s reading this but you and the moon.
Write what’s true. On the second piece of paper, write who you actually are underneath the performance. What do you actually think? What do you actually want? What’s the version of you that doesn’t edit itself for the room? Let this one be messy and honest.
Read both out loud. Say the release out loud first. Then say the true colors out loud. Hearing the contrast between them is part of the work.
Burn the release. Light the first paper from your candle and let it burn in the fireproof bowl. Say the affirmation as it burns.
Keep the true colors. Fold the second paper and put it somewhere you’ll see it. Your nightstand, your altar, tucked into your journal. Let it stay visible for at least the next two weeks.
“I release the version of myself I’ve been performing. My true colors are enough. They are more than enough.”
Integration note:
In the days after this ritual, notice where the pattern you released tries to reassert itself. It will. Old patterns don’t disappear overnight. But you’ll catch it faster now. When you do, take one small action that aligns with the true colors you wrote down instead. The magick lives in those moments of redirection, not just in the ritual itself.
Zodiacal Focus: What Each Sign Should Work With
♈ Aries: Your community and long-range goals are lit up. Release the lone-wolf approach to something that actually needs other people, and let them in.
♉ Taurus: Your professional life and public direction are asking for honest examination. What are you building toward, and does it actually reflect who you are now?
♊ Gemini: Expansion is available in the areas of philosophy, travel, and study. Release a belief about what’s possible for you that has quietly been operating as a ceiling.
♋ Cancer: This Full Moon illuminates shared resources, power dynamics, and intimacy. Something beneath the surface in a close relationship or financial arrangement wants to be seen.
♌ Leo: This is your opposite sign hosting the Full Moon, which means your relationships are the mirror right now. Where are you dimming yourself for someone else, or taking up too much space?
♍ Virgo: Your daily routines, habits, and physical wellbeing are in focus. Release a pattern of self-neglect or a habit that no longer serves the person you’re becoming.
♎ Libra: Creative expression and joy are asking for release from whatever has been suppressing them. Let yourself be a little strange and a little brilliant.
♏ Scorpio: Home, roots, and the emotional foundation beneath everything else are illuminated. What old family pattern or inherited story is ready to stop running?
♐ Sagittarius: The way you communicate, the stories you tell, and the ideas you’ve been circling are all in focus. Say the unconventional thing. Write the unusual take. See what happens.
♑ Capricorn: Your relationship to money, value, and what you consider yourself worth is asking for honest review. Release a scarcity story that’s been operating underneath your decisions.
♒ Aquarius: Your Full Moon. The light is on you, on who you actually are under all the adaptations you’ve made to fit into various containers. Release the performance and let the real version breathe.
♓ Pisces: Something beneath the surface, an old pattern, a private grief, a way of self-protecting that’s become self-isolating, is ready to release. Let Pluto help you move it.

Transformation work (especially with Pluto conjunct this moon)
This full moon is a lot. I want to be honest about that because I am already feeling scattered a bit and like I’m being drawn in multiple directions to try all sorts of new things! . Between the Moon conjunct Pluto and the Sun on Jupiter in Leo, there’s more weight to this lunation than the average July evening. You might feel it in your emotions, in your dreams, in the conversations that suddenly get real when you weren’t expecting them to. That’s appropriate. That’s the moon doing its job.
What I’d say is don’t try to manage it. Aquarius energy doesn’t respond well to being controlled. It responds to being met. Let the feelings surface. Let the unusual ideas come. Let yourself be a little less edited tonight and see what that makes available.
The Buck Moon gets its name from the antlers regrowing. Bone pushing through, tender at first, covered in velvet, then hardening into something solid and impressive. That’s the energy of this moon at its best. Something real is regrowing. Let it.
